Hartford, CT — January 31, 2019 — Payball, an app that offers
sports organizations an easier way to pay their sports officials, coaches, and staff, received the Entrepreneur Innovation Award (EIA) by CTNext after competing in a Shark-Tank style pitch contest tonight at the Real Art Ways venue in Hartford,
CT.  Payball was one of ten finalists selected for the competition and as one of the four winners, they were awarded $10,000.

“Payball is one of the personal-pain-points-turns-business-idea,” said Payball Founder and CEO Peter Makover, in his introduction on Thursday night.  “As a volunteer Board Member of Norwalk Junior Lacrosse I was responsible for making sure our officials were paid in cash…I quickly learned how archaic and risky that process is, and when I couldn’t find a solution out there, I decided to build one…and Payball was born.”

Payball, along with four other startups were awarded a $10,000 prize to use towards funding an initiative that would meaningful grow their company.  For founder Peter Makover, this means attracting larger organizations by adding a desktop version of the app, in addition to the existing mobile app.  “With our early success, word has spread and larger organizations have been approaching us,” says Makover. “But they want a desktop version since they do all their admin work at their desks.  We believe attracting more of these large-scale organizations can elevate our earnings by over 450%, making it a compelling return on investment.”

Payball was launched in 2016 to simplify the administrative headaches often involved with managing payments. The app streamlines the process for sports organizations, enabling them to make payments easily and quickly with full tracking and reporting capabilities as well as eliminating 1099 filing requirements. Payball was named a “Must Have App” by U.S. Lacrosse Magazine, a “Recommended App” by the National Alliance for Youth Sports and has customers such as the Women’s Pro Lacrosse League (WPLL), Wilton Soccer Assoc., CT Rush Soccer, Stamford Peace Basketball, New Canaan Field Hockey and Darien Little League, and many other organizations throughout the country.
